Bill Cosby was a comedian and later created two television sitcoms that showed the African American community in facets of life that were not commonly known about or shown on television at the time. Two of his most famous television shows were "The Cosby Show" and "A Different World," both of which portrayed African American's in a positive light.
The Cosby Show gave Americans insight into the lives of an upper middle class Black family, a portrayal of Black family life, that although very real, was not common on television at the time.
A Different World was a show that showcased the culture of young Black college students attending a historically black institution. The fictional college on the show, Hillman was modeled after the campuses of the real HBCU's it was filmed on in the AUC (Atlanta University Center: Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Clark University of Atlanta) and statistics show that the show increased the enrollment at historically Black institutions 80% during the time it was aired.
Last week we posted an article by Tracy McMillan called "Why You're Not Married"...many of you loved it, some of you hated it, and everyone had opinions on it. Here is Jessica Ratvitz response article entitled "Why I'm Not Married (and it's not because I'm an Angry slut)." We thought this offered some very valid points from another persepctive. Read below:
"I'm not sure how it took nearly a week for her Huffington Post column, "Why You're Not Married," to land in front of me, but it finally did. And now I'm fired up -- not in an angry way but in the sort of way that made me skip to my desk, excited to type.
To hear it from the thrice-divorced McMillan, I'm 41 and not married because of one (or more?) of six reasons: I'm a bitch, a slut, a liar, shallow, selfish or not good enough.

Recently Halle Berry has gotten "mixed" reviews on her decision to call her biracial daughter Black. Here are our thoughts. What do you think? Comment!
We loved this article! It explains why many women find themselves single and unwed in their 30s. Read below:
"You want to get married. It's taken a while to admit it. Saying it out loud -- even in your mind -- feels kind of desperate, kind of unfeminist, kind of definitely not you, or at least not any you that you recognize. Because you're hardly like those girls on TLC saying yes to the dress and you would never compete for a man like those poor actress-wannabes on The Bachelor.
You've never dreamt of an aqua-blue ring box.
Then, something happened. Another birthday, maybe. A breakup. Your brother's wedding. His wife-elect asked you to be a bridesmaid, and suddenly there you were, wondering how in hell you came to be 36-years-old, walking down the aisle wearing something halfway decent from J. Crew that you could totally repurpose with a cute pair of boots and a jean jacket. You started to hate the bride -- she was so effing happy -- and for the first time ever you began to have feelings about the fact that you're not married. You never really cared that much before. But suddenly (it was so sudden) you found yourself wondering... Deep, deep breath... Why you're not married.
Soul Train is the longest running and nationally syndicated black television show (1971-2006). Soul Train served a platform for black music when there were no television shows that aired Funk, Jazz, Disco, R&B, and Soul music by black entertainers. It was hosted by Don Cornelious and had over 1,000 shows that aired.
Listen to snippets of a VH1 documentary made by Questlove that explain why Soul Train was the first of it's kind and a powerful movement in black music and the community below:

This commercial aired during the Super Bowl and is considered to be highly controversial. So much so that Pepsi is pulling the commercial. It is said that this commercial plays into stereotypes that Black women are angry, controlling, and combative...basically the definition of the word "shrew." Check it out below:
Do you think the commercial is offensive and plays into stereotypes of black women being angry shrews?
We personally feel there are things that project black women in a WAY WORSE light on television, yet no one gets as angry about those? Why is that? Do you agree or disagree? Why?
